We provide notary certified written and verbal special translation services in 72 languages with 6 our branches.

Since 1997, we have provided, and continue to provide, more than 300,000 pages of translation and hundreds of hours interpreting services per year to thousands of global brands, hundreds of sectors such as pharmaceutical companies, automotive companies, law offices, medical products and electronic product manufacturers and importers, media channels, sports clubs and associations, government agencies, notaries, customs and logistics companies and universities.

I have been in the translation sector as a business owner since 1997. Acil Tercüme, previously a private company, has been continuing its translation journey as a limited liability company since 2002. Acil Tercüme serves its customers in 6 locations in Istanbul: Göztepe, Ataşehir, Kadıköy, Şirinevler, Bakırköy and Taksim. A company with more than 50 full-time employees. And soon we will have a branch in London. Our goal is to reach the quality of urgent translation both in many parts of our country and in many parts of the world, especially in Europe. I’m a graduate of Department of Translation. I’m a notary certified translator. In addition, I am a lecturer who teaches in the Department of Applied English and Translation at Arel University, where our highly qualified teachers have taught for more than 5 years, with complementary content specific to the sector that prepares students for the translation sector.

Zamanla aynı dili konuşan insanlar birbirini bulup kendi kurallarını oluşturur.

People who speak the same language find each other and form their own rules over time.

According to legend, people begin to build a tower that rises up to the heavens in order to reach God. God resents the smugness and arrogance of the people who try to reach him, and demolishes the tower that was built. According to the belief, all people at that time spoke the same language. But God divides this one and single language that all people speak into 72 different languages. People who cannot speak the same language cannot agree, communicate with each other, and the Tower cannot be rebuilt. God distributes them all over the world and shows his own perfection, and man’s imperfection… Over time, people who speak the same language find each other and create their own rules. In this way, a large number of nations and thousands of languages belonging to these nations emerge on earth.

The emergence of translation; begins with this interesting myth, which also explains the birth of hundreds of languages around the world. At that time, translation allowed nations to recognize each other’s culture and exchange information, and today it continues to serve as a bridge for people to communicate and develop their relationships with each other, and further it plays an important role in the civilization of human life.

The perception of a traditional translator, with a dictionary in many areas on his table struggling with text, has also introduced the technological elements that are necessary for the profession. Paper, pen, mechanical typewriter, electronic typewriter… processes have now been replaced by Computer-Aided translation programs. Thus, the process also required a translator to follow technological developments and have up-to-date technological equipment. Of course, behind all these processes, there must be the ability to translate. For me, the most important way to achieve this skill is to graduate from the translation departments of universities. That’s why these departments are available in universities. A graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy cannot be a doctor, and each sector has its own unique and valid diploma. Just as we can’t be a financial expert with a translation department diploma, the opposite should not be possible as well! In cases that require expertise, field knowledge, of course support can be obtained from a qualified specialist specific to that sector. But there is no doubt that the profession of translator, which is a respected profession, should be subject to license, as in other respected professions.

Sektörün sorunlarından biri de nüfus cüzdanıyla vergi dairesine giden her vatandaşımızın bir çeviri işletmesi açabilmesi. Bu durum, sektörde kalite sorunlarına yol açıyor. Binlerce Mütercim Tercümanlık mezunu öğrencilerimiz sektörde iş bulmakta zorlanıyor. Dirsek çürüttükleri sıralarda yarınlarının hayallerini bu şeklide kurmamışlardı! Sektörün onlara, onların da sektöre ihtiyaçları var. Bu işin komisyonculuğunu yapanların aradan kanuni mecburiyetlerle çıkartılması şart!

One of the problems of the sector is that every citizen who goes to the tax office with an identity card can open a translation business. This leads to quality problems in the sector. Thousands of our students who have graduated from translation departments are having trouble finding work in the sector. That’s not how they dreamed of tomorrow when they spent their time in our departments! The sector needs them, and they need the sector. Those who perform brokerage in this business must be eliminated by legal obligations!

Speaking of technological developments; unfortunately execution of the translation processes through many unnecessary paper printouts with signatures still blocks both the sector itself and import, export and customs clearance processes completing required formal processes and procedures their works by means of translation services. The lack of an official chamber for the translation sector also causes these processes, which are now considered primitive in our age, to be carried out in this way.

The number of salaried translators working in translation companies in addition to number of freelance translators working from home is already a big figure in our country. A weighted portion of our country’s translation needs are carried out by our freelance translators and they fulfill an important niche. However, self-educated, academically trained, well-equipped freelance translators in the sector are unfortunately unable to be taxpayers to continue their life due to the inconsistency of price policies caused by unfair competition in the sector. This leads to both the loss of taxes for our state, loss of official expenses for translation businesses, and material and moral losses of free-time translators who cannot guarantee their future. This is a very sad situation for our translators working by their labor. It is possible to take care of themselves and bring the sector to a respectable point with the contributions of both sector stakeholders and our state. Concrete steps need to be taken for this purpose.

A lot of effort is expected from departments of our universities that supply human resources in the sector and academicians of the departments. Each department must have lecturers who know the sector, have been in the sector for years and can provide additional information specific to the sector! Students in sector-specific departments also need to review the internship process and content from start to finish. Internship planning and agreement should be made by cooperating with reliable companies in the sector. In the departments, areas such as translation office, translation laboratory should be created that reflect the sector conditions and have the technological software and hardware that should be there.

Currently, being a notary certified translator depends entirely on the opinion of notaries. However certain conditions and criteria must be met for this purpose. A professional qualification institution should be authorized to provide certificates on the basis of education and exams, especially in cooperation with universities, by establishing units related to languages that are not educated in our universities. As a result, it is necessary to either graduate from the relevant departments of universities that provide human resources to the sector, or create certificate programs that are jointly run by the professional qualification institutions and relevant departments of universities for languages that are not educated in universities.

There are very valuable people in the sector. Their ideas are very important. It should be our most important task to bring them together under the leadership of our state and take concrete steps and bring our sector to the respected level it deserves.
